Since the kingdom is a military kingdom I think that a military coup is moot. The way things are set up the best fighters are put in charge of the armies. Okay, so the best fighters are put in charge of the armies. Who’s in charge of the people?

Alyssa, this is Bog Dog. It clearly states in book one, when in times of war, the highest ranking officer within the military becomes king if the king and his children are to pass on. The senate chose to vote this way after the barbarians attacked seasons ago and the kingdom of Brandor was ill prepared and unready to defend itself. This is only the rule in times of war.

So let’s say that the king and his children die and the General becomes king. Then war ends, and the general dies and he happens to have no children. What happens then?

When the General becomes king the first thing that he needs to do is fill the vacancy, that is normally the next in command, and then all other vacancy’s are fill accordingly. When Sam was second under the General, and the General was assassinated he was promoted and a new person was promoted to second. The General’s family are now considered nobles. Subject to there being no war, the nobles within his family line would be considered for the crown. The senate would have some sort of vote I imagine. I will say this, the book is long enough without getting into that big mess.
